Beyoncé fost artista cu cele mai multe premii câștigate la Gala MTV Video Music Awards 2016. Cântăreața a obținut opt premii, inclusiv trofeul suprem – videoclipul anului.
Beyoncé a devenit cântăreața cu cele mai multe premii VMA, surclasând-o pe Madonna. Videoclipul piesei sale „Formation“ a câştigat principalul trofeu al galei, „videoclipul anului“. Însă pe lângă asta, vedeta a fost preferata la categoriile „cel mai bun videoclip al unei cântăreţe“, „cea mai bună coregrafie“, „cel mai bun montaj“ şi „cel mai bun video într-un format lung“. Beyoncé a ținut un spectacol inedit, interpretând cinci piese de pe noul ei album, „Lemonade“.
Pe scenă a urcat, pentru prima oară după 10 ani, Britney Spears dar și Rihanna, cântăreața fiind nevoită să pășească pe scena VMA de patru ori.
